THOUGHTS
There are some awesome thoughts contained in the 109th Psalm.
Ps 109:1-10 Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD
with all my heart, In the company of the upright and in the assembly. 2
Great are the works of the LORD; They are studied by all who delight in
them. 3 Splendid and majestic is His work, And His
righteousness endures forever. 4 He has made His wonders to be remembered;
The LORD is gracious and compassionate. 5 He has given food to
those who fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever. 6 He
has made known to His people the power of His works, In giving them
the heritage of the nations. 7 The works of His hands are truth
and justice; All His precepts are sure. 8 They are upheld forever and
ever; They are performed in truth and uprightness. 9 He has sent
redemption to His people; He has ordained His covenant forever; Holy and
awesome is His name. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His
praise endures forever.
Praise and Thanksgiving... The company of the upright, the assembly...
God’s great works... God’s enduring rightness... Our memory, God’s
memory... Forever Covenanting... our Heritage... Truth,
Justice, Sure Precepts... Redemption... Holy God, our fear is
wisdom... Praise Forever!
The key thoughts above are compressed into this short reading.
There’s a certain definition of God and His people here. I count 5
“forevers” and a “sure” in this psalm. Forever is coupled with
COVENANT twice! We, His people, are given a certain definition
here. God’s covenanted connection of Himself to His PEOPLE shines
through.
Ps 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people
whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.
Ps 79:13 So we Your people and the sheep of Your pasture Will
give thanks to You forever; To all generations we will tell of Your praise.
Ps 100:3 Know that the LORD Himself is God; It is He who has made
us, and not we ourselves; [We are] His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Ps 149:4 For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will
beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.
My Prayer:
We praise you Oh God everlasting. You have covenanted with us for our
good. We are blessed continually from your goodness. You have
redeemed us Oh God. Holy and awesome is your name. Help us to fear you
that we might gain your wisdom. Give us greater capacity to praise you.
May we live in love. In the name of Jesus
Amen
